Jury Duty Process Beginning August 2024 For Service October 2024

Boundary County has implemented a new jury duty process and software.

This section of instructions and information is valid for prospective jurors who received the new Summons and Questionnaire for jury service that begins October 2024. Summonses and Questionnaires were mailed mid-August 2024, for jury service in October of 2024. Summonses usually are mailed about 6 weeks before the start of the term of service.

1.)All Prospective jurors in receipt of a Summons are to complete the questionnaire on the Idaho Jury website https://jury.idaho.gov if at all possible. Otherwise, complete and mail to the Jury Commissioner. Mobile phone photos are not acceptable, FAX or scan and email is OK.

2.)This includes people over 70 years of age, former residents, convicted felons, previous jury service, medical conditions, etc.).

If you have been previously excused, disqualified, or postponed, you must fill out and return the new form.

Email me why you believe you received the Summons in error. Historical data for disqualifications was integrated into the new system, but not postponements, or non-permanent medical excuses, or holds. I will check your name against the historical records, advise you of the results, and code you into the new system accordingly.

3.)DO NOT use any previous versions of the Boundary County Questionnaire you might find online.

4.)Prospective jurors will be able to monitor their status on the new website. https://jury.idaho.gov., or call the IVR Phone Line (844) 509-1211. You will need your juror ID number (lower right of the Summons, below the barcode) to use either resource.

Be aware, in order to check status on the eResponse website you MUST log into it, and complete the online form, even if you sent in a completed questionnaire.

5.)To view your status on the Idaho Jury website, log in, select Home, then go to Service Information.

6.)If you have a medical condition that is ongoing and/or permanent that would prevent you from being a juror, you must download and print the Physicians Certificate of Release form, print it, and have your medical provider (must be MD, DO, PA, or NP) fill out the form, and return it to the Jury Commissioner. Please get that done ASAP. You may also attach other documentation of your condition(s), such as disability summary (SSDI or VA).

7.)The new system will notify you via email or text (must opt in for text) of your jury service status, or, additional information needed to process requests for deferrals, postponements, excusals, or notification of unavailable dates.

If you do not supply at least an email address, you will NOT get email notifications. You MUST fill out the form online in order to opt in to receive text message notifications.

8.) The new system will also notify confirmed (qualified) jurors of report dates and times for trials, and notify of any changes to the schedule. Report dates and times can change up to the working day before the trial date, unless previously cancelled.

9.)All assigned jurors are responsible for knowing their report schedule, regardless of notifications, and should call the IVR Phone OR check the Idaho Jury Website, nightly after 6 pm during their term of service (located on the Summons)..

10.) Jury terms of service formerly ran for 4 months in Boundary County, due to having to handle paper forms and hand-code in all the information. With the new online system, that has been reduced to 1 month, with jurors commonly assigned to one trial in that month.

However, jurors may be assigned to more than one trial date, depending on the trial schedule, and availability of confirmed (qualified) jurors. Be aware that the time frame for getting in questionnaires, and medical forms, is shortened as a consequence.

As usual, I will work with you to facilitate your Jury Service. Be aware that it is rarely convenient for anyone, and is considered a civic duty in Idaho.

The key to success is communication. Do not delay in completing and returning your juror questionnaire ! If you receive a Summons for someone who no longer resides at your address, kindly advise me with a call or email.

If you receive a Summons for someone who has passed away, or is a college student, active duty military, on a mission, etc., please advise me as well. You may in those cases fill out the form for the person, and return it to me. At the very least give me a call or email to advise me of the situation.
